Mesothelioma - Stages.

Mesothelioma - Stages.

Stage I: Mesothelioma is found in the right or left pleura and may also spread to the lung, pericardium, or diaphragm (the muscle separating the chest from the abdomen) on the same side. Cancer at this stage is
known as localized malignant mesothelioma. Patients in this stage have a significantly better prognosis than those in a more advanced stage.

Stage II: Mesothelioma has spread beyond the lining of the chest nearby lymph nodes located in the chest.

Stage III: Local extension of disease penetration through the diaphragm into the peritoneum

Stage IV: There is no evidence of distant metastases (spread of cancer cells through the bloodstream to other organs).

Most often used to describe the spread of mesothelioma is Butchart System. This is the oldest staging system and the one who thinks primarily in the extent of primary tumor mass. TNM system is another new suspension system available, which is more detailed and precise. In the Brigham System, the latest system. This system stages mesothelioma according to resectability (the ability to surgically remove) and lymph node involvement.
